One of the most prestigious golf tournaments of all-time

Regarded as one of the most prestigious golf tournaments of all-time, the U.S Masters is also one of the oldest, having been played every April since 1934. The tournament was established by at-the-time amateur champion Bobby Jones (who was a lawyer by profession) – he is now considered one of the most incremental figures in the history of professional golf.

2017’s Master’s tournament was won by Sergio Garcia from having a sudden death playoff with Justin Rose after both players finished the course in nine-under-par. This was a win that marked Garcia’s first U.S Masters victory. The current record for the most victories at the Master’s is held by Jack Nicklaus, who managed to win the tournament an incredible six times during his career. Who could possibly be the next pro golfer to beat his record?

As it’s one of the oldest tournaments and is held every year, the U.S Masters has developed several traditions. It was in 1949 when the green jacket that’s presented to the winner was first introduced, while 1952 saw the first champions dinner – an invite-only event that’s held every Tuesday before each tournament begins and is only open to past champions and board members. A third tradition also appeared in 1963, when it was decided that a previous Master’s champion or a golfing legend would be given the honour of commencing the tournament by hitting the first tee shot.

With a monetary prize of £11 million given to the winner, every golfer participating in the tournament – from multi winner Tiger Woods to first-timer Matt Parziale, has to ensure they play at their very best to be within a chance of taking home the cash and a green jacket. However, which golfer should you place your bets on? This quiz will help you figure out who is worth your money. You can look at US Masters to get the latest odds for the tournament.
